Open House
We had a wonderful Open House on Wednesday January 29, 2020. The current WDSS students and teachers had a productive group class followed by a discussion on ‘What do we get from studying a musical instrument’. The discussion was engaging and interactive as they built towers with can goods which they labeled with their finding. We ended our time together with an amazing community drum circle lead by percussionist John Olsson. We did not have as many visitors as we had hoped but we all had a great time. We will do an Open House again, perhaps on a Saturday!
“Our son has grown tremendously as a musician..."
“Our son has grown tremendously as a musician and performer since joining WDSS. Lannie’s mastery of Suzuki, fiddle, and improv and her calm, fun, and firm teaching style were what initially sold us on WDSS. But then the studio’s emphasis on community and performance added unexpected bonuses in the form of new friends (for him and us) and confidence in playing. The time commitment is substantial, but we now have a 10 year old who can really play and even volunteers for solos!”

A student’s thoughts on playing for the Blessing of the Animals
“It was fun and interesting and cool to learn the music for the Blessing at home and with our teacher. I really liked the music that we got to play.
I have never been to a Blessing of the Animals before (although my mom has!), but it was really fun to see the animals being blessed!
Mrs. Barnette kept telling us not to be distracted by petting the animals! I was ignoring all the noise and watching my music and the other musicians closely.
It was fun to do something for the church and not just for myself, because I always enjoy helping people!
Yes, I would definitely do it again if I had the chance!
If my friend was interested in animals, then I would tell them that it's a really interesting experience to watch and be a part of! Also it's just another opportunity to perform with my friends!”
